United for Justice: July 30 Mobilization to Save Legal Aid

Premier Doug Ford cut Legal Aid funding in Ontario by 30%. It is having disastrous consequences for Ontario's most vulnerable people. The hardest hit include women fleeing domestic violence, refugees fleeing life-threatening persecution, and people facing prison because they can’t afford a lawyer. With community legal clinics facing unprecedented cuts they will be unable to help all of the people who need their help to stave off eviction from their home or to access entitlements like workers' compensation and disability support payments.

As a result of these cuts, new costs are piling up as Ontario’s already overburdened court system will face extraordinary delays as even more people have to try to be the lawyer they can't afford. Research shows this means court proceedings take much longer and there is a higher likelihood of appeal.

Join an event near you on July 30 and be part of the mobilization to stop the cuts and save legal aid.
